The Alabama Elder Care Law Firm, LLC is not an ordinary law firm. We have a Social Worker on our staff and one of her (many) jobs is to serve as a surrogate daughter for our clients. We realized long ago that many adult children have moved away from Birmingham but their parents still live here. The adult children want to be more involved in their parent’s life but they simply can’t. That is where we can help.

We will become as involved in the parent’s life as the family wants us to be. We establish with the family what specific services are desired and what timetable is expected. A typical recurring service is a bi-weekly house visit so that we can set up a Skype or Facetime call with the children. “Mom” may not be able to navigate a personal computer, so we will set up the call and let the adult children not just talk with Mom but see her. It also gives us an opportunity to visually inspect Mom’s home to see if anything is amiss and then report back to the children our findings.

In addition to these bi-weekly Skype visits, we can also escort your parents to doctor’s visits or tests at the hospital. We can discuss with his/her MD any medication issues or other matters that might be important, and report back to the children. We can assist with shopping trips and transportation in general. If and when the time comes, we can advise the family on alternate living arrangements such as independent living communities or assisted-living communities, and narrow the search process for the family. If downsizing is needed, we can assist with estate sales and moving to their new home. All of these services can be provided for a nominal hourly rate. The benefit is the peace of mind the adult children have, knowing that “Mom” is not being neglected, and knowing that they can save their vacation time to either spend with their own family or spend it with Mom when it is truly necessary.
